Unable to create initial connections of pool issues in Grails

Question 1

My senior created a remote oracle JDBC, I have to connect to specific WiFi to access the database scheme. Even though I configure my DataSource.groovy as below:

But it still shows unable to create initial connections of pool issues in Grails. I have cleared the proxy in my Grails (the place I working require proxy to connect to WiFi) as my senior say proxy will affect the connection in Grails. I would like to know what is the reason that I can't connect to remote database.

Is your ojdbcXX.jar on the application's classpath?

Depending on the version of Oracle you're using (seems to be 11) you may just need to change the driver package name from:

driverClassName = "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"

To

driverClassName: 'oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver'

As the error message indicates, you're using the TS_DATA tablespace. You can extend it by either enlarging one of the existing data files:

ALTER DATABASE

Or by adding a second datafile to the tablespace:

ALTER TABLESPACE ts_data

I've changed the version of JTDS to 1.2.6 and all works fine.

By the way - you don't need to add the jar manually. You just have to add the following to your BuildConfig.groovy (in the dependencies section):

yes this will be OK for meanwhile. But there are details missing. I'll post detailed instructions as soon as i get to the office. Actually there is a sample for mySql somewhere on the grails site, and from it it's pretty clear how to make same for an oracle DB.

I just have created a new app and compared it with myne for oracle 11g. Here it is:

./build.gradle, add following line to "dependencies" section:

And the Hibernate dialect for Oracle you have is pretty old one, I think you'd better remove it, without specifying it explicitly all works fine.

spring.datasource.dbcp2.max-total=1

This indicates that you're trying to use the DBCP 2 connection pool. However, when you check the stacktrace, you can see the following:

o.a.tomcat.jdbc.pool.ConnectionPool : Unable to create initial connections of pool.

As the package of the ConnectionPool class is org.apache.tomcat, this indicates that you're actually using the default Tomcat connection pool. This means that your max-total poperty is not being picked up properly.

If you want to configure this for a Tomcat connection pool, you need to use the maxActive property:

spring.datasource.tomcat.max-active=1

Alternatively, if you don't want to use the Tomcat connection pool, you can add the DBCP 2 dependency using Maven/Gradle/... . If you exclude the default Tomcat connection pool, it will automatically pick up DBCP 2.

Another possibility is to configure it by using the spring.datasource.type property as mentioned by the documentation:

You can bypass that algorithm completely and specify the connection pool to use via the spring.datasource.type property. This is especially important if you are running your application in a Tomcat container as tomcat-jdbc is provided by default.

For example:

spring.datasource.type=org.apache.commons.dbcp2.BasicDataSource
